Useful Keyboard Shortcuts

Show Desktop - Hold the windows key (usually found between the ctrl and alt keys, older keyboards may not have this key) and hit the D key. This will hide all windows and show your desktop. This is very useful if you have lots of shortcuts on your desktop.

Switch windows - Hold the alt key, and then tap the tab key. As long as you hold the alt key, a small window will appear in the middle of your screen. You can continue to hit the tab key to choose which window you want to switch to. When you release the alt key, you will switch to the window that is selected. Also, you can hold alt and press tab, then release alt quickly, this will switch to the last used window. Once you get used to this keyboard shortcut, it will probably be one of your most often used shortcuts.

Windows Explorer - Hold the windows key and then hit E. This will launch Windows Explorer, where you can view the contents of your disk drives.

Address Bar - In both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, if you hold the alt key and then hit D, it will cause your cursor to jump to the Address Bar and highlight the current address. What makes this convenient is that you can then simply type over the address. For example, if I have http://www.google.com in my address bar, I can hit alt+D and then immediately type www.ebay.com without having to first remove the contents of the address bar.

Close the current window - Hold the alt key and then tap the F4 key. This will close the current window that you have open.
